Fake stuff: how to detect stuff like that.

 FOOD FOR THOUGHT…

Many of us (even my dad! Ha ha!) have been spoofed by vendors selling counterfeited stuff, be it iPods, joysticks for gaming consoles or even earphones, and even worse- it happens again and again even before we know it! So how to avoid all that and keep your life normal? And who’s going to stop those pesky vendors?
Let’s keep those vendors aside for now…
Well, we can’t make a single, straightforward solution… though there’s a list of do’s and don’ts I’ve made here… hope it helps you.

DO’s

FIRST: Please think logically. Question yourself:
Why is the vendor selling such pricey stuff at dirt cheap prices?
Should I trust the vendor blindly,
or find blogs on the internet which help me to differentiate between the real and the fake stuff?

SECOND: Look for the signs. Many blogs on the internet are dedicated to help you detect the fake stuff.
Even when you’re buying something look closely, and examine. Only if the specifications match with that of the real product (as described in the blogs) then buy it. The fake thing never entirely matches with the real. Aha! No crime is perfect!

THIRD: only buy when you’re 100% sure of its genuinity.

FOURTH: buy from trusted places only.

DON’Ts

FIRST: do not buy the thing if you aren’t really convinced: just follow you instincts. After all, it’s your money!

SECOND: if you’re already fooled once while buying a gadget, don’t buy from the same store as all stocks tend to be the same in the same store.

THIRD: do not buy if prices seem unrealistic.

I hope these have helped you… and don’t forget to post your points just in case I’ve forgotten something (post as comments; if any).

Fake ‘waterproof iPhone’ ad sent people dunking their iPhones into water?!

Looks like people aren’t thinking logically these days….I mean can you believe it? People actually believed the hoax given below:

It says that Apple iPhone users can make their devices waterproof by an iOS7 update, which apparently sent iPhone users destroying their dear, pricey devices. The spoof says that the update has a 'smart switch' which will shut off power supply and protect the device when you dunk it in water(otherwise if it accidentally falls into water) which is false...don't ever trust that....else you'd lose your gadget!

This hoax has been circulated in social networking sites with the ad given above, which quite resembles Apple’s official marketing.

The iOS7 update has many new features BUT DOESN'T MAKE iPhones WATERPROOF.

This prank reportedly originated on the online forum ‘4chan’ that hijacks social media in its campaigns to trick people.

How do you think you can spot a fake PS3 Dualshock Controller?

Do you think you are smart enough to distinguish between a fake and a real PS3 Dualshock Controller? Maybe you are……but unfortunately this is a tough nut to crack! Manufacturers of the fakes have kept in mind every detail so as how to make it difficult to differentiate between the counterfeit and the real. So here are a few tips to keep in mind while buying one…

PACK DIFFERENCES:-

#1 The Logo

The first image: Real
The second: A Fake
WHY?
Firstly see the “O” in the SONY logo in both the packs. The “O” in the real one is thicker and wider while the one in the fake is thinner and hollow.

#2 Printed info at the back

Spotting a Fake PS3 Dualshock Controller

You might think all’s well here right?
Well…..almost.
The first (on the left) one’s a fake as the printed stuff begins right beneath the cloud shaped hole (I don’t exactly know what it’s called) but on the latter it doesn't; there’s some space before the writing starts.

#3 the pic on the side

Spotting a Fake PS3 Dualshock Controller

Left one: fake
Rightoriginal
If you see both the images of the Dualshock 3(see the tiny pic to your right; printed on the left of the pack) you will find out that the one on the left (the fake one) has got the smooth white colored shade on top wrong, while the other has the smooth white shade correct; going perfectly in a line.

Fake creative earphones

Fake models in the market: EP-630 and EP-830 creative earphones in the market can possibly turn out to be fakes.

THE GENUINE EP-630 EARPHONES

1)  The strings of the real earphones are of equal length.

2)  PACKAGING: It is packed in blister packs, usually orange in color.

3)  The price difference between the real ones and the fakes is huge.

HOW TO SPOT THE FAKES?

Now there , you have a very easy answer. The most easy ways to spot a fake  EP-630 are  :

ü  As  mentioned before , the cords of the real EP-630 are of  equal length ,unlike the fakes which have different cord lengths.

ü  The  pack of the creative earphone is usually orange.

Other differences

ü The  fakes do not have a matte finish.

ü The driver cover of the real EP-630 is of silver color, and it is smooth and rounded, but the fake has a 45 degree angle.

ü The grill on the real pair is silver colored, and almost flush mounted, but the fakes have quite a dull finish.

ü The ear bud lip on the fake is kind of square.

Something about the sound

What’s the use of something that does something that it’s not supposed to do?

The main use of the earphones was to produce good sounds right?

But unfortunately the fakes aren’t designed to do so. The right ear bud of the fake pair usually turns out to be fakes. They sound quite uneven. If you push them further into your ears, you hear a scrunching sound. In some cases, no sound can be heard from one of the ear buds of the set.

If you want to hear clearer and sharper sounds, spot the fakes!

Appearance of the fakes

Fakes?? Which one?? Ha ha! Clearly visible!

Small ear buds from the real pair are quite larger than the fake pair.

The real one: has a silver driver cover and grill. And the driver edge is rounded.
The counterfeit set: has its grill glued to the inner wall of the earphone. Also, the grill is darker than the one on the real stuff. Its driver case is edged.

The ear bud lip on the fake is squared. On the right, you can see the ear bud lip of the genuine set, which has an angled edge.

And at last, the cords are of the same length on both sides of the genuine set.

Where to buy from , online?

1)  Creative’s online store.

2)  Amazon .

HOW TO DETECT Fake iPods

FAKE IPODS ARE BECOMING COMMON IN MARKETS. THE CLONES ARE HARD TO WORK WITH. HOW DO WE DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN THE REAL IPODS AND THE FAKES? A FEW POINTS WILL ANSWER THIS QUESTION.

THE FAKES are sold AT A REDUCED PRICE. MOSTLY THE VENDOR SELLING THE FAKES OFFERS A 30% DISCOUNT.

The fakes come with extra features. These include FM, free e-books, voice recorder and a lot more. These features don’t come with the real stuff.

The click wheel of the original stuff reacts on a single touch whereas that of the fakes generally doesn’t

Instead of an iPod dock (used for head phones) the fakes have an usb port. An iPod dock is hard to clone therefore a usb port is made.

Fake apple iPods

Fake apple iPods come in plastic boxes whereas the real ones come in transparent cases
The moment you switch on the real apple iPod, the apple logo appears on the screen.

Beware of your fake earphones, ipods, tablet PCs !

It is completely possible that millions of common people like you and me are using counterfeit stuff without even knowing it!
These merchandise are  sold at low prices, so the dealers are given the priviledges to give excuses of selling goods without warranty, the goods don't function well, and so on.For touch screens, they have certain problems like , improper functioning of the touch screen etc.. The counterfeit goods may have the same logo, same shape, size and other physical quantities .... But only to a certain extent they have no difference from the real stuff....
There are a few miniature details that distinguishes the original products from the counterfeit ones.My blogs are all dedicated to these.....
